I talked to someone who has lived here for several years and her version of ramadan as a non-muslim is that it makes the women work harder, because they have to get up very early and fix a huge breakfast so the men can eat before the sun comes up. Then the men get up and eat and go back to bed. Then they oversleep and gives them an excuse to be late for work. After the sun goes down they eat and party until they go to bed. Her opinion was that it is suppose to be a time of sacrifice; not to eat or drink, but because they make it a law that everyone has to follow it makes it too easy for them.
