Day 40 of my captivity

The grocery stores are all in the basement of apartment buildings or in the mall basement. So far we have found most of the groceries things that we have looked for. We like ketchup from Nebraska better than ketchup from Egypt. The packages look different, printed in Arabic with enough English to figure out what it is. Most things we can identify by the color/design of the packages anyway.
We haven’t seen ranch salad dressing at the restaurants, and a salad is just a salad. It may be called a greek salad or oriental salad, but it really should be called a green salad. I have tried several and they all are basically the same. Lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, green olives, onion, carrots, and cucumber, with mustard dressing or italian.
Most of the nicer restaurants are in hotels and that is the only place that serves alcohol. There are some good restaurants in the furniture stores and grocery stores too. It is very odd to eat at Ikea, but they make good food.
